Blooming success for planter appeal

An appeal launched on alderleyedge.com to help spruce up the village centre has proved a big success.

In May, I ran an article for Alderley Edge Parish Council to launch their London Road Planter Appeal - to enable them to line both sides of the London Road with 12 large self watering planters which will be planted and maintained on an ongoing basis. This means that when the summer flowering is at an end the planters will be re-planted with an autumn/winter display.

Councillor Mike Dudley-Jones said "To achieve this we, the residents of this village, needed to raise £11,000 (£9200.00 +VAT) and chose to seek the support of as many friends, family and local folk as we could to contribute £60.00 each (or more!) to help us reach our target. That is a lot of people! Well, your generosity was exceptional! Thank you, thank you, thank you.

"We are delighted to say that, just 8 weeks later, we have reached our target - and the 12 planters are in position and are looking fabulous. We cannot thank all those who have contributed enough for rising to this challenge! It was just an immense effort and we hope that all who have played their part in this community project feel proud of what we have all achieved - together."

He added "At last, after too many years, our village can hold it's summer (and winter) head up because it now looks like 'a beautiful place'."

Over the next few weeks a brass plate will be erected on the London Road showing the names of those who contributed.
