This month Alderley Edge Methodist Church says goodbye to their longest-serving minister as he moves to Harrogate.

Ben Clowes, with his wife Catherine and two boys Sam (18) and Joel (14), is well-known for his energy and patience in developing the churches at Alderley Edge, Mottram St Andrew and The Welcome and for his quirky approach in getting involved with the community.

He once brought a flock of sheep to a Christmas Lights Switch On and has manned the baby-changing stall at Alderley's May Fair. He is also a bit a computer whiz and has appeared on the TV show 'Eggheads'.

Ben has been involved in numerous school groups and this year helped re-launch Alderley's youth club. He has also overseen the restoration of the church spire.

He is now looking forward to new challenges in Harrogate as Superintendent of the Nidd Valley Circuit.

Rob Cotton, minster at Knutsford, describes Ben as "a real man of God who we will deeply miss, not least for his wonderful sense of humour. Our loss is Harrogate's gain."

His farewell service will be held on Sunday 23rd July at 6:30pm at Alderley Edge Methodist Church. All are welcome.
