Alderley Edge 1st XI bounced back to ensure top spot was maintained halfway through the season with a comfortable victory at Parkgate against Neston.

Edge skipper Adam Worrall invited the home side to bat first on what looked to be a good pitch. Alderley looked set to be in for a long afternoon on the field as Neston raced to 30-0 after 4 overs. Australian Winter-Irving dismissed both openers in quick succession leaving the home side at 41-2. David Hurst and Dom Smith steadied the ship for Neston with a partnership of 39. Golden arm Charlie Reid trapped David Hurst LBW for 36 with the first ball of his one over spell as Neston capitulated losing their last 6 wickets for just 22 runs as they were bowled out for 123. Winter-Irving continuing his fruitful season with figures of 5-41, superbly supported by Richard Wilkinson who picked up key wickets in the middle order. He finished with 3-32 from his 12 overs.

With 73 overs to bat, Alderley had plenty of time to get over the line and complete a 25 point victory. Openers Rowe and Day wasted no time at all flaying the ball to all parts, finishing with 51 not out and 63 not out off just 37 balls respectively. Alderley finished on 127-0 off just 22 overs, completing a 25-0 point victory over Neston. At the halfway point Alderley Edge find themselves top only by a handful of points with Chester in close pursuit. Alderley travel to Grappenhall this week to build on their lead at the top.

Alderley Edge 2nd XI lost the toss and were asked to bat by Neston on what appeared to be a perfectly flat dry track prepared by Alderley groundsman Alan Day. The Neston bowling attached enjoyed some early success as they ripped through our top order, reaching 30-3. Veteran Mark Currie realised he had to dig in for the long haul by grinding out what turned out to be a match winning innings of 49 not out after what felt like 879 balls. The rest of the Alderley batting lineup failed to fire and ended up 135 all out off 48.3 overs, what seemed to be well below par.

Mark Warnes rolled back the years as he turned one for the first time this season. Warnes was seemingly unplayable at times and dismissed the Neston batting attack for 65 taking 6-19 off his 14.1 overs, ably assured by Ted Vanderhook who ended up with figures of 3-26 off his 7 overs.

Alderley 3rd XI returned to winning ways on Sunday, with a victory that was not without alarm at Cheadle. Inviting the hosts to bat, tight bowling dismissed Cheadle for 108, with the highlight being a 5 wicket haul for the impressive Will Fosbrook. The Alderley reply started shakily, with the loss of 4 early wickets. However, the dependable Will Chalk was joined by Henry Scanlon and these two built a solid partnership, before Chalk departed for 39. Mike Higginson then joined Scanlon and these two saw Alderley to their victory target with a degree of panache.
