Families gather for a magical day

Local families gathered at Alderley Edge Community School on Father's Day for the second Maxipotential's Wizard Walk.

Whilst they didn't manage to reach last year's number, over 170 wizards joined the walk in the glorious sun shine on Sunday, 18th June.

Families enjoyed a magical day with Merlin keeping everyone entertained with close up magic tricks and children's shows. He then led the walk from Alderley Edge Community School, out through the park, into the fields and back through the centre of the village.

Afterwards Whizzy the Wizard was wandering in the park to catch for a selfie, whilst mischievous bridge trolls challenged the walkers to pass them, and visit the four magical spell stations.

One parent said 'It's the one day I know I can take my kids where they both enjoy all of it and don't get 'wingey' - which means I have a great day too!"

Maxi potential was set up by Saz Bailey to raise funds for her 9 year old son Max Bailey who has scoliosis (collapsing spine). Max requires surgery before his curve impacts his internal organs and becomes life threatening.

Saz Bailey said "It is an expensive event to put on, and we didn't raise funds for Max this time, but this particular event is very much about raising awareness of his condition for early detection and prevention."

The winning author of the spell collected along the route was Max's best friend, Larney Windram who wrote:

Were going to cast a spell, to make Max fit and well.
Scoliosis will be beat, during this amazing feat!

Saz added "Eighteen months ago Max was given no options - he needed an horrendous surgery immediately to protect his internal organs before it became life threatening.

"We know there is a better way but only in America. With guidance from this team, and unwavering commitment as a family, we have apparently achieved the impossible. He is well on the way to correction and continues to get stronger (and cheekier). He is blossoming into a lovely child.

"His treatment in America must continue until we can bring it to the UK. We are now in process of setting up a charity and pursuing a national network of therapy centres in order to help many more children and young adults with this cruel condition."
