Parish Council objects to plans for increased office space on London Road

Planning permission is being sought to increase the office space above a shop in the village centre.

EGM Properties Ltd have applied to build a 1st floor 2-storey extension at the rear of 3 London Road, above the Willow Boutique which will be closing shortly.

The proposals also include making internal alterations to create a new parking bay at basement level, which would be accessed from the rear of the property, replacing the windows at the front of the building on the 1st and 2nd floor, making modification to the windows on the rear and side elevations and rendering the rear of the building.

The planning application states that the changes are required "To increase office space at first and second floor and enhance the property's character."

Alderley Edge Parish Council discussed the application at their meeting on Monday, 12th June.

Cllr Miles Garbett said "I've got some concerns in the fact that they're markably opening it up for heavier office usage and they're only proposing to provide one car parking space. I don't think there's suitable consideration for staff parking."
He added "With the more intense use they'll be a requirement for more employee car parking and they're not addressing that in providing one car parking space."

The Parish Council agreed to recommend the proposal for refusal on the grounds of insufficient parking for the additional employees, concerns over manoeuvrability and the impact on light for the neighbouring property.

The plans can be viewed on the Cheshire East Council website by searching for planning reference 17/2607M. The last date for submitting comments is 26th June and a decision is expected by 25th July.

How short sighted! The landlord clearly believes the property needs to be bigger in order to attract or keep tenants and wouldn't be spending this sort of money just to keep it empty, the fact they are proposing 1 space is an improvement, not every body drives to work. So once again we will end up with an empty office above an empty shop because the PC cant see beyond the "possible" need for more parking spaces. Hopefully CEC will look at it differently.

I totally agree with Vince Fogharty and his comments above.

What short-sightedness from these Parish Councillors who, once again, are doing nothing more than procrastinating about the urgent need for more parking spaces that they themselves should be creating, such as using the allotments in Heyes Lane.

They've been in power now for more than two years, but yet, they are still only discussing ideas and possibilities to create more parking spaces in the village.

What we need is ACTION from you Parish Councillors, especially as you got into power by saying how well you would solve the huge parking issues in this village.

More than two years later, and we're still waiting for your answers !!

Let's not hold our breath, because you'll want even more time for consultations and yet more surveys to come to the same conclusion that most people in the village already know ......

The Heyes Lane Allotments are the only realistic proposition !!
