Annabel Tiffin officially opens charity's new centre

A charity which has supported adults with learning difficulties for over 15 years in Alderley Edge Handforth and Wilmslow held a grand opening of their new premises on Saturday, 29th April.

The Time Out Group officially opened the permanent base they have created, the 'Together' drop in centre at the Paddock in Handforth, with BBC North West's Annabel Tiffin helping to cut the inauguration ribbon.

Guests were entertained by a samba band whilst enjoying cakes, drinks and a Tombola. They were also given a tour of the premises which members, staff, friends, carers and trustees have all been busy getting decorated and ship shape since January.

The Time Out Group's patron ambassador Annabel Tiffin joined in meeting old and new members and The Oakmere Singers and Santander Foundation later presented the Time Out Group with cheques to further fund the drop in centre.

Annabel Tiffin said "I am thrilled the Time Out Group has this great new base and Drop in centre. I have known some of the volunteers and members for about ten years, and the work they do together is fantastic. I think once you are a part of Time Out Group you are part of it forever, it is a wonderful family.  I am sure the opening of Together will make the group a real part of the community in Handforth.”

The Together drop in centre is a dream come true for Time Out Group members who have been asking for a permanent site where some activities could take place, where they can meet with each other and increase their independence and involvement in the local community.

One of the members, Clive said "I really enjoy having the Together premises where I can come to meet with members and friends, learn new skills, relax and make new memories."

David said "I really enjoy the different things we do at Together like learning about the world and to stay safe."

Mandi, one of the Trustees commented "The centre was full to the brim, the tables and chairs outside were all occupied, the samba band were playing in the square and members were joining in dancing and playing on the instruments!".

Claire, one of the newly employed Time Out Group support workers said "It was fantastic to see how everyone works together and how much pride, pleasure and purpose the Time Out Group creates. I was delighted to be approached by several new members and to be genuine in saying the drop in group welcomed members' skills and ideas."

For now, the Together centre is open Thursdays 1730-2100 and Saturdays 1030-1430 though the intention, subject to funding, is to eventually open every day.

During these hours, Time Out Group offers educational, arts and crafts as well as social events, or just a place for members to pop in for a chat or advice, as well as a cuppa.
