Celebrations to mark opening of new youth club

Following a refurbishment, Alderley Edge Methodist Church has re-opened their youth club in the cellar which members of the church dug out in the 1960s.

On Sunday, 30th April, 80 people gathered at the church for a Service of Thanksgiving, followed by the reopening and rededication of 'The Net' Youth Centre.

In its heyday 'The Net' was full several nights a week with young people attending but in recent years it had become a storage room, however, the church were aware that there was still a need for a youth space in the village.

Thanks to donations from local businesses and residents, including from the funeral of a young man who had been a youth club member in the past, the church was able to refurbish the space.

Those who were involved in the original 1960s project and their families, along with those who had been involved more recently gathered at the service to give thanks.

After a short service, 'The Net' was officially opened by Councillor Rachael Grantham and Youth Councillor Louis Johnson (who is also a member of the new Youth Club, Breakout).

Rev Ben Clowes, minister of the church, said "I am thrilled that 'The Net' has been refurbished and that there is a safe space for the young people of our village."

Breakout Youth Club runs on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month from 7pm-8.30pm for all young people in years 7 to 10 (those currently in year 6 are welcome after the SATs are completed).
