Rewarding Wednesdays at Brookview

Students at Alderley Edge School for Girls, Rowdah Charbak and Laura Wild, both aged 17, visit Bupa's Brookview Care Home every Wednesday afternoon to meet and chat with residents.

The girls have been volunteering at the care home since September of last year and they both really enjoy the experience. When asked why she volunteers, Rowdah said "I find it really rewarding, it's so nice to meet with residents and learn about their life. The residents have so much to share and their stories of times gone by are really interesting." Laura echoed the sentiment "I really enjoy getting to know the residents, they all have such fascinating stories to tell."

Both Rowdah and Laura are form prefects at their school (Rowdah has been nominated as Head Girl from the start of the new term) and are currently studying for their AS examinations. Rowdah is studying Physics, Chemistry, Art and Drama and Laura is studying Classical Civilisation, Psychology and English Language.

Both girls find the home both comfortable and welcoming. Home Manager, Maureen Southern said "It's an absolute pleasure to have Rowdah and Laura visit our residents, their visit enables residents to chat to a different generation and share stories of their life. Equally, the residents like really finding out about the girls. We wish the girls the very best of luck with their forthcoming exams and look forward to seeing them again very soon."
