Residents urged to complete 'vital document'

Questionnaires have recently been delivered to every household in Alderley Edge as part of the Neighbourhood Plan process, however to date only around 100 have been returned completed.

Neighbourhood Plans allow communities to say what they want their priorities to be over the next 15 years and once completed they have the power of the law. Planning Officers will refer to Neighbourhood Plans when considering planning applications for new developments in and around the village, which means they can have a real and positive impact on the village's future.

As a crucial part of the Neighbourhood Plan process, local residents are being asked their views on what aspects of living in Alderley Edge are important, where new houses should be built in the village and what type of new housing is needed. The questionnaire also asks for views on car parking, transportation, local facilities and improvements to the village centre.

The answers from the survey will form an important part of the data being collected for the preparation of the Alderley Edge Neighbourhood Plan, which once complete everyone in the village will be able to vote on through a referendum.

The deadline for completing the Alderley Edge Neighbourhood Plan Questionnaire Thursday 30th March and councillors are hoping they receive a surge of responses during this final week.

Councillor Christine Munro said "I know people put it aside and think they will do it later. but it is so important, please do it know. Without our Neighbourhood Plan we don't have a say in the future of our village. It is a legal document which Cheshire East have to consider when they are looking at planning applications.

"Alderley Edge is a beautiful place to live. Lets make sure it remains that way."

Councillor Mike Dudley-Jones added "If you choose not to respond -and sadly many will – it is no good getting angry in the future when life in Alderley Edge as you know it - or wanted it - has changed beyond recognition. It will be too late to be heard!

"So please spend a few minutes completing this vital document. It will help us to make a difference in the future and it will help us keep Alderley Edge as a magic place to live. That has to be worth a few minutes of your time, surely?"

In addition to the paper version, the Alderley Edge Neighbourhood Plan Questionnaire is available to be completed online.

Where can we get hold of these questionnaires as we have not received one, nor do we receive any other council information.

Thanks for the link - I'd binned (recycled!!!) the paper copy in anticipation of completing the online version but I couldn't find a link on the council's website, only a pdf which rather defeated the idea of doing things online!!!

No questionnaire delivered to this Ryleys Lane address! Will revert to online questionnaire. Should deadline for submission be extended due to mailing problem?

If you find that you have not received a Neighbourhood Plan Questionnaire please download one from here or from the Parish Council website as your input is vital to us. Please accept my apologies on behalf of the Parish Council. We have contacted our distribution team to investigate the few incidents reported.

Please mention on your downloaded form that you DID NOT receive a copy through the door and please let us know your address so we can investigate more accurately and ensure that it does not happen again in future deliveries.

Once again my apologies.

I am sure that the few residents who did not receive a questionnaire will be able to access this vital document by other means. In any event I will ensure that those who did not receive one will have one delivered if they inform me via this site or via the Clerk at the Parish Council.

If that means we have to extend the deadline for those who inform us of their plight then we are happy to do that as the information we seek is of great importance to us all.

What should be a concern to everyone in Alderley Edge is that less than 200 questionnaires have so far been returned out of 2600 delivered. Unless the response improves significantly it will make the process of neighbourhood planning much more complicated than it needs to be and could result in trying to establish a Plan that only represents a fraction of the residents in our Village.

As a result the future look and make up of our Village might change beyond all recognition and to arrest that change will be well nigh impossible.

Please let us know what your thoughts for our future are.

Given I didn't receive a questionnaire ( Moss Road ) , it was hard to fill in or even know about ..
Friend told me could fill in online on PC website , so just being there and the PDF is a real pain to complete ....
Now discovered the link here on alderleyedge.com which works a treat , ty who ever did that ...
Maybe some questions needed about PC communication ..

Approximately 3,300 questionnaires were delivered to homes within the parish of Handforth and 351 responses were received, so you get quite a few "can't be bothered" all over
