Residents of Brookview care home in Alderley Edge spent the afternoon with Dickens the owl, along with her fellow birds of prey from Feathery Folk, in the comfort of their own lounge this week.

The birds came from Congleton to visit the residents, who were able to hold them with the guidance of Head Falconer, Libby Cooper. In the company of their family and friends, the residents then watched as the four birds, which included owls and a harris hawk, performed a flying display in the lounge area of the care home.

The Feathery Folk aim to share enthusiasm for, and knowledge of birds using interactive, hands-on encounters with thirteen birds of prey. Libby Cooper, who owns the business, has vast experience working in falconry and wanted to share her passion for the creatures.

Libby said: "Interaction with animals such as these birds is fantastic for cognitive stimulation. The birds evoke happy memories, so it's brilliant to share their magic and watch as the residents of the care home marvel at their beauty."

Bupa-run Brookview delivers a host of activities and visits for its residents throughout the year, with activity coordinators working tirelessly to provide stimulating and enjoyable events to suit residents' taste.

Maureen Southern, Home Manager at Bupa's Brookview care home said: "We are lucky to have the opportunity to welcome these amazing animals into our home. The residents thoroughly enjoyed interacting with the birds and the mood at Brookview was high throughout the day.

"It's truly special to see the residents share special moments like this with their friends and family members."

The 62-bed care home provides specialist nursing and residential care. They also offer long or short-term stays providing respite, convalescence and palliative care.
