Youth councillors set priorities for park improvements

Members of Alderley Edge Youth Council, which was established last year to enable the younger generation to have an influence on developments in the village, are keen for further improvements to be made in the park.

Following the recent revamp of the children's play area they are currently working to source funds via grant applications and corporate sponsorship to fund further developments.

The ten members of Alderley Edge Youth Council have agreed that their priorities for the park are to install some skate ramps and to create a nature area with seating for office workers having lunch, parents watching their children and summer picnics. The long term aspiration is to have a 'MUGA' (Multi Use Game Area) somewhere in the village.

Additionally the youth councillors have agreed to support the "Alderley in Bloom" campaign and will shortly have their own flower bed in the park. They are also inviting the Mayor of Cheshire East to attend one of their next meetings so they can learn more about her role and tell her a bit about their organisation.

Councillor RachaeI Grantham said "I would like to congratulate the youth Ccouncillors; eight months later and they really are having a positive effect on the village."

May I join Rachael Grantham is saying 'Well Done' to the Youth Council.

You are helping to bring our Village together, making it a better place for the younger residents and you should all be very proud of what you are doing. Top Marks!!

I think the Youth Council is a really good idea and they should be proud of themselves! Their ideas for the park sound wonderful.
I think that perhaps a really good idea would be a Youth Club aswell It would be somewhere to go to on these cold nights. There are a few locations it could take place in the village, like Girl Guide/Scout Hall or perhaps the Church Hall. I used to love the youth club when I was younger.
Just a suggestion but something the Youth Council could discuss.

There is a youth club that is brilliantly run by volunteers and held at the Methodist church twice monthly on a Monday evening Sarah. My two boys go quite often and enjoy it very much.

Sarah,

Thank you for your comment. Denise, one of the leaders at the Methodist Church Youth Club came along to a couple of our Youth Council meetings. She explained to us about their group, when they meet and the activities they do.

We are now looking at ways the Youth Council and the Youth Club can work together to encourage more youth engagement in the village. Both groups are keen to make sure everyone is aware of the various activities going on for their generation.

We really appreciate your feedback and will discuss your comments at our next meeting.

Best wishes,

Rachael
