Council pursues claims against two companies over damaged roundabouts

Cheshire East Highways are pursuing claims against two companies after Councillor Craig Browne reported damage to the roundabouts at Wood Gardens and Beech Road.

Speaking at the Parish Council meeting on Monday, 9th January, Councillor Browne explained "With the help of some keen-eyed local residents I have got photographic evidence, in one case a coach driving over the roundabout and in another case a lorry, so I've passed that on to Highways and they are pursuing claims against the two companies before to putting that work right again."

Councillor Browne also confirmed that the grass verges on Oakfield Road are due to be covered over with tarmac towards the end of February/beginning of March and work is due to commence on installing dropped kerbs at various locations in the village centre to help make it more accessible for everyone.

Additionally he explained that a couple of large potholes at the junction of Wilmslow Road and Brook Lane are due to be repaired with Type Two patching, which is the same as Highways did on Brook Lane towards the end of last year, by late February/early March.

Can you do the same for Hough Lane where the builders have driven over the nice grass verges and turned them into muddy strips which have now spread all over the road. Cars need cleaning after every trip down there (can we all claim?) and I would not like to ride a bike on that slippery stuff.

One interesting bit in the above text: '...the grass verges on Oakfield Road are due to be covered over with tarmac....'.

About half of Oakfield Road has grass verges. In those grass verges are a lot of mature trees. Is the intention to tarmac around these trees (that's bad enough) or to fell them?

Essentially are we to see grass verges (greenery and wildlife) replaced with tarmac?

Of course, if the people who live on Oakfield Road were consulted then perhaps so be it; they were consulted weren't they?

Hi Duncan,

Thanks for your questions.

The grass verges concerned are the ones between the junction with Crescent Road, to the junction with Heyes Lane. At the Parish Council meeting on Monday, I did suggest (rather tongue-in-cheek) that they might be more appropriately referred to as "mud verges" and it is partly due to their condition that I have asked CE Highways to carry out this work.

A number of residents who have attended my monthly surgeries, or written to me, have commented on the terrible condition of the verges and asked what could be done about them, so in essence I have simply responded to their wishes. The plan is not to tarmac right up to the established trees, but to allow them space to continue to grow and certainly not to fell them.

I hope this addresses your concerns.

Kind regards,
Craig

Hi Craig,
thanks for the info.
I still find it a shame that greenery is to be replaced by tarmac.
Do we actually know what/who causes the poor state of the verges?
Well there you go then!
