Plans for private clinic approved

Plans to change the use of an empty retail unit to enable a private clinic to open in the village centre have been approved.

Dr Chantrey, who currently has a clinic on South Street, has been given planning permission to change the use of the first and second floors at 55 London Road to private clinic (D1) along with a mixed use of A1 (Retail) and D1 (Private Clinic) at ground and basement level.

The building is currently vacant but was most recently used as a charity shop and prior to that occupied by a travel agent.

Permission has previously been granted for some minor works to be carried out to the rear of the property to enable the upper two floors to be accessed seperately from the ground and basement levels. A planning application to change the use of the empty retail unit to enable a restaurant or cafe to open was refused in July 2016.

The private clinic will employ 4 full-time and two part-time members of staff.
