Alderley Edge Parish Council has agreed to purchase a new notice board for the village centre at a cost of £1050 + vat.

Speaking at the Parish Council meeting on Monday, 12th December, Councillor Craig Browne explained "There has been an ongoing issue with getting the carousel at the Waitrose parade replaced."

Councillor Craig Browne proposed purchasing a three panel aluminium noticeboard with two lockable panels for displaying Parish Council and Cheshire East information and one unlocked panel where members of the community could post community notices.

The notice board would cost £855 + vat and the installation cost would be £195 + vat.

Councillor Browne said "There are more expensive options. There is the prestige range and the timber range but I've proposed the one which I thought was the best value for money but also provided what I thought we would want it to provide."

He added "It is certainly needed and it does seem very expensive, I realise that but then again we've saved money on the Christmas tree this year."

Speaking about the removal of the carousel, Craig said "I spoke to Frank the manager back in the summer and he did indicate that Waitrose would be prepared to take that away for us and clean up the pavement.

"It is technically our asset so hopefully they will work with us to get rid of it. I don't think they want it there anymore than we do."

Installation from the date of order would be about four weeks.

Can 'room' be found, during the replacement, such that an xmas tree can be placed each year ?

Hi Duncan,

Thanks for your question. I realise the article does not make it clear, but the new noticeboard will be of a "flat" design, with two posts, positioned up against the low wall you see to the right of the picture. This means that once the existing carousel has been removed, there should be sufficient room for a Christmas tree and for power to be taken from the nearby lamp column.

Kind regards,
Craig
