New parking spaces marked out in village centre

Work is almost complete to create 15 additional parking spaces in the village centre.

There are some aspects of the work still to be done, which is scheduled to be carried out shortly. Then the additional spaces will be as follows:

  • South Street - 5
  • West Street - 2
  • London Road - 4
  • Stevens Street - 3 (still to be done)
  • George Street - 1 (removal of the doctors space - still to be done)
  • Chapel Street - two have been lost but we are gaining previously "disabled" spaces on George Street (still to be done), so the nett effect is neutral.

Councillor Craig Browne said "I would like to thank Cheshire East Highways for doing everything possible to complete the work before Christmas, which as we know has involved their staff working over the course of the last weekend. Fifteen short-stay spaces changing hands hourly between 9am-5pm effectively accommodate an extra 120 vehicles over the course of each day.

"I hope this will help make make things a bit easier for residents doing their shopping, as well as increasing footfall which I know is of concern to many of the smaller independent retailers on London Road."
