Time to play as new area is officially opened

The new children's play area in Alderley Edge Park was officially opened yesterday along with two new table tennis tables which are located in the pavillion.

Additionally, at the request of Alderley Edge Youth Council, a new piece of equipment called 'Cheddar Gorge' has been installed which challenges youngsters to swing hand to hand across a steel curved arch.

Councillor Rachael Grantham said "We had a lovely afternoon playing table tennis, trying out the new equipment and eating cupcakes!

"We were delighted to see other youngsters and their parents, who came to help celebrate Alderley Edge Youth Council's first major achievement. After the Christmas break we will be working hard to progress our plans to upgrade the areas of the park more suited to older children."

Councillor Craig Browne added "The new play area and equipment has been installed at a cost of 48,000.00; this has been paid for using section 106 money which had been held in residue for a number of years. I am pleased to have been able to support the Youth Council in helping to access these funds. It's just a shame they were better at table tennis than me!"

If you get to visit the new play areas and facilities at Alderley Edge Park do share your views via the comment box below. Also, if you have any suggestions for facilities more suitable for older children then do let us know.

Was there cut backs on the playground equipment? Can we have the big old one back please? Looks like a garden slide has gone in.

48k.....what a joke! Well done to the youth council for requesting equipment for older kids though. Is there a timeframe and plan in place that can be made public?

Well done all round.

Sadly the 'scum' are already breaking bottles etc. where the children play. Can the 106 money stretch to a hidden CCTV set-up so that the 'scum' can be caught and punished ?

£48k???? Is that true? I bet you could have gone to BnQ and have them fit something bigger for couple of grand. Oh well there is always Carrs Park. We were looking forward to the new park but looks a shame that the old one went for just this little effort.

The grass looks very "un-finished"

May I join Duncan Herald in saying 'Well Done - all round'.

I cannot understand though why others came to live in Alderley Edge when they clearly only find things wrong with it.

Good news that they are off to the Carrs in Wilmslow though. Hopefully they might move there - or would that be too much to hope for?

Stay 'joyous'!

Absolutely Mike and Duncan .... Well done !! Re-iterating what I've said before , our PC ( past and present ) VOLUNTEER their time striving to make our village the lovely place it is to live .

Naturally we have this forum to express opinion , and indeed as a democracy , people are able to have different opinions !!

Perhaps people on this thread who aren't happy with what the PC have achieved thus far should stand up and be counted and put themselves up for election next time around

Enjoy The Carrs , and let families who do appreciate the park enjoy the facilities in peace and harmony !!

Just Saying .....

Season's Greetings !!!

Well done to the PC for having a go and volunteering their time. Just saying it as it is though from my friends group of parents. I don't really care on cost as it's the councils money, all we like to see is progress. This my friends isn't progress it's a disappointment. I'm only so vocal as we were really looking forward to it. and the feeing is very much.....is that it?

It's been almost three months now since the small childrens area was revamped, but yet the area still does not have any new grass turf on the damaged area, just a muddy mess, anyone know when it will be finished ?

The play area seems to have no one there every time I walk through the park! What is the next stage in the improvements that the youth council are helping with?
