Olympic gymnast inspires Alderley girls

Alderley Edge School for Girls welcomed one of Britain's most successful gymnasts on Monday, 31st October.

Beth Tweddle, the first female gymnast from Great Britain to win a medal at the European Championships, World Championships, and Olympic Games, hosted a Junior School Assembly and also held a question and answer session with the school's Sports' Scholars.

Beth spoke to the Junior girls about the benefits of gymnastics, wellbeing and nutrition, in addition to talking about her time on the TV show Dancing on Ice, which she won alongside Daniel Whiston in 2013.

Bridget Howard, Head of the Junior School commented, "We were extremely excited to hear that Beth would be able to join us and it was an excellent start to the new term. The Junior girls were in awe of Beth's successes and really enjoyed the session. It was a fantastic and inspirational session."

Headmistress, Helen Jeys added, "Beth encouraged the girls to learn from disappointment and the importance of hard work in achieving goals, which fits perfectly with our whole school emphasis on resilience and inspiration. We hope to welcome both Beth and Sue back to the school very soon."
