A tea dance organised by the Alderley Edge Branch of the Royal British Legion has been hailed a big success.

The annual event attracted people of all ages - from ten-years-olds to eighty plus - who gathered at the Festival Hall on Sunday, 30th October, to kick off this year's Poppy Appeal and enjoy the sounds of the 30s, 40s and 50s.

Diana Bullock said "The dance was a great success, raising £750 for the Poppy Appeal. Dancing ranged from ballroom to a bit of Latin, jive and fun dances, ending with the okey cokey.

"We had six very well behaved children who joined in the fun dances and had a great time. Whilst some of the older people who were unable to dance, enjoyed the music and watching the fun."

In addition to the entertainment, guests enjoyed tea and cake, a licensed bar and raffle.

Diana added "Homemade cakes were enjoyed by all and everyone went home having had a super afternoon."

The Alderley Edge Poppy Appeal raised £7589 last year and collection boxes for this year's campaign are now available in some village shops and cafes.

Volunteers will also be manning a table in Waitrose on Friday, 4th and Saturday 5th November and Handforth Cadets will be selling poppies around the village on Saturday morning.

Congratulations on raising such a good amount for the British Legion Di. I am sure everyone had a fantastic time, as they did at the May Fair Dance you organised, and I am just sorry I wasn't able to be there.
