Alderley Edge scoops Silver Gilt award for first In Bloom entry

Volunteers are celebrating today after picking up an award in the village's inaugural North West In Bloom entry.

Christine Munro and Steve Taggart of Alderley Edge In Bloom attended the awards ceremony at Southport Convention Centre today (Friday, 28th October), where they were thrilled to pick up a Silver Gilt award in the best small town category.

Cllr Munro announced the win on Facebook saying she was "Absolutely over the moon".

Speaking after the tour in July, judge Mel Kirby said ""For a first time entry I'm very very impressed."

Councillor Craig Browne said "I would like to recognise the contribution of all the local people who have given of their time to help make this achievement possible and also to thank the many businesses who helped out by sponsoring planters.

"It just goes to show what can be achieved when everyone pulls together and I hope that next year we will be able to go one better and achieve a gold award. This is an award which the whole village can and should celebrate."

Christine munro added "Thank you to all the volunteers and businesses who helped with our entry. This was our first time entry and we were absolutely thrilled to received a
Silver Gilt, just one short of Gold, and that is what we will be aiming for next year.

"We will be getting together over a drink on Wednesday 9th November to plan for next year so if you can help, have any horticultural knowledge to advise us, or would like to be involved in any way, do come along - 7.30pm on Wednesday 9th November at the Union Club."
