Car park reopens with properly marked bays

The car park at Ryleys Lane has reopened following a week long closure for resurfacing and marking out the parking spaces.

Councillor Craig Browne confirmed "I went along to inspect the work on Tuesday morning, as it was completed slightly ahead of schedule. I am delighted with the finished result, which has created 37 properly marked bays and transformed what was previously just a patch of waste ground into a properly functioning car park.

"Not only is it now incredibly smart in appearance, but order has been brought to an area where total chaos had been allowed to prevail for many years. On behalf of all residents of Alderley Edge, I would like to thank Cheshire East Parking and in particular, David Thurlwell (Facilities Management) for allocating the resource to enable this to happen."

Progress. Now please stick in a car park attendant, RingGo machine and a 1 hour max!

Craig,

Whilst I'm sure that David Thurlwell is a lovely chap, please never forget that it is WE who allocate the resource to make these things happen.

The way I see it, we regularly proffer up a great deal of cash to CE Council to do good things. They, in the large part, do not do good things with that cash.

The tarmac loves lovely and the parking bay paint is a great improvement on what was there before, but I think I'd like to test Mr Thurwell and his colleagues further before, congratulating them on the way in whicht they "allocate our resources" .

Great visual improvement (although sad we lost a tree) but overall better. Interesting to see what happens when charging starts to occur. I already note that up to three cars are parking daily in the non 'bay' marked area in front of the electricity sub-station

Hi Alan,

I do think it is important to both develop and maintain a good working relationship with officers and so I will always thank them for carrying out work I have asked for in Alderley Edge.

I do understand your frustrations and often wish that the pace of change was faster; however, I don't believe this is the fault of individual officers, most of whom go out of their way to help.

Kind regards,
Craig

Looks nice BUT there was room for 43 cars and the good Councellor wrote here that he hoped for 40 spaces so the drop to 37 is a disappointment ?

Perhaps that will be overlooked if the Phase two comes in sooner rather than later?
For those who don't know, the proposed Phase Two involves the grubbing up of hedges and the chopping down of trees so as to make possible extending the existing car park up to London Rd.

Will those who fought so hard to protect the allotments at Heyes Lane allow the proposed Phase Two to go ahead? or will there be protests?

By the way, does anyone know how the proposed small/part tarmacadaming of the allotments on Heyes Lane is coming along? If negotiations are in progress, I don't expect details but knowing that 'something' was happening would be nice eh ?

Good councellor, sic,?

I think the electorate has already made the choice between good and bad Councillors.

Hi Pete,

glad you spotted today's deliberate spelling mistake (oops!).

You must stop looking backwards all the time ! We're almost half way to the next elections.

Instead why not try to answer the above questions ? Can you do it? Are you a party to the deliberations?
Clarity, transparency, openness are good words ! So is answers, would you not agree?

I may be running the risk of being labelled the Car Park Gestapo but I just walked through the shiny new car park on the way back from the village (15:45 Monday 31/10/16).

I note:

- One car parked in the disabled bay not showing a blue disabled parking permit
- One Land rover not parked in a marked bay and blocking two legally parked cars in (lets hope the illegally parked Range Rover owner returns before those cars need to leave
- Two cars parked in front of the sub-station in an area not marked as a parking bay area

The signage at the entrance clearly states disabled cars need to display permits and cars may only park in designated bays. i did take anonymous pictures without number plates visible but unsure how to upload them here.

It's great to have the new car park, freshly refurbished, but as we all know Alderley drivers (or are they from father afield, need to be educated as to how it is to be used, signage is only one element of that education)

Hi Dave,

You can report any incidence of illegal parking via the following link:

Not unusual for idiots to think that parking bays do not apply to them. In my former village I noted people parked totally on pavements and on one occasion in front of the War Memorial. And don't get me going on those who parked over a zebra crossing to get a paper when there were empty legal spaces a 1 min walk away.

Never ending problem.

Needs to be policed. Who likes a fine or a clamp ?

Hi Craig, I take your point re the link to report incorrectly parked vehicles but really - would it have any reaction/impact?

To be honest if everyone used that link I think the server may go into meltdown the level of parking misdemeanours there are in our village. I think a stroll around AE by an enforcement officer or PCSO would have more impact.

Hi Dave,

You are right in that it is probably unlikely that CE Parking will immediately send out an Enforcement Officer each time they receive a report; however, the online reporting tool is useful in terms of advising them where there may be ongoing issues and helping to focus their attention on "hot spot" areas.

Many thanks,
Craig

Just a small point.
Cars have parked in front of the sub-station for many years; seemingly without anyone in authority caring a fig.
Why has that changed? To allow people to get into the sub-station? Could they not just walk around the cars?
Is there any specific reason (please not 'elf 'n safety ?

Duncan.

There was a car parked "up close and personal" to the sub station this evening when I walked the dog (in the pouring rain) so I'm guessing that it doesn't matter how the bays are marked out, people will "improvise" as they see fit.

I've no doubt that pretty soon (by encroachment) the creative parking brigade will soon have colonised the Band Stand and possibly even the Bowlers Hut!

But there is (by and large) no longer any parking enforcement in the village so we have to rely on the acquiescence of people to get the decent thing done.

Unfortunately, in Alderley Edge, that's not going to work.
