Plans for a new residential development on the corner of George Street and London Road have been approved.

The scheme from Cornerhouse Properties includes making alterations and extending 1 George Street and 54 London Road to provide five apartments and five car parking spaces. The scheme, which was originally for six apartments and six parking spaces, includes the change of use of ground and first floor offices to residential and the retention of the ground floor shop unit.

Tony Clowes of Cornerhouse Properties said "The new development at The Cornerhouse is in response to the demand for apartments from both young professionals and local, elderly 'downsizes' - who want the convenience of living in the centre of the village and its obvious facilities.

"Being able to walk to the station, dine and shop on the doorstep is very desirable."

A section of 1 George Street will be demolished and replaced with a new building, whilst the adjacent property at 54 London Road will be extended and the height of the corner building will be raised to create a new second floor.

As a result of the proposed development a right of way to the neighbouring Hubert Worthington House will be closed and a new site entrance to this building will be created off George Street.

Tony added "The project will breathe new life into the Victorian shop property, which will be extensively refurbished and extended, with the rear new building reflecting the original character."

The plans can be viewed on the Cheshire East Council website by searching for planning reference 16/0505M.

Why does part of the existing building need to be demolished? Do we not have enough of these generic modern buildings in the village already thanks to the Jones Homes developments?
