Medical Centre gets a grand opening

The project certainly had its fair share of challenges, so after 13 years of hard work a ceremony was held last week to make the official opening the new Alderley Edge Medical Centre.

Doctors, patients, former and current parish councillors and staff of Cedrics, which is now part of the new medical centre, gathered on Wednesday 28th September for the official opening ceremony.

They were joined by some of the people who were involved in the construction and development of the new modern practice which was a real team effort and the result of a unique collaboration between the medical practice, the Parish Council, the NHS and local developer Jones Contracts.

David Mowat, MP for Warrington South and Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Health was invited to officially open the medical centre which has provided doctors, staff and patients with 21st Century facilities.

Congratulating everyone on the achievement, David Mowat said that the Alderley Edge Medical Centre could be a model for primary care in the future, with more current hospital services being provided in the community.

Dr Edwin Thompson, who was involved in the project longer than anyone else, said "All the doctors now have their own rooms, the nurses have treatment rooms fitted out to allow a wide range of treatments, including minor surgery, and the receptionists and admin staff have adequate space to work."

He added "The building will allow us to bring additional services for patient, we already have dermatology clinics every week and a nurse led specialist diabetes clinic."
