Assessment of need for Brook Lane roundabout underway

brooklanerb

As reported on alderleyedge.com in April, Alderley Edge Parish Council has agreed to spend up to £1000 so the viability of creating a roundabout at the junction of Brook Lane and Wilmslow Road can be assessed.

Councillor Craig Browne and Cheshire East Highways have identified installing a mini-roundabout at the top of Brook Lane as a priority in order to improve traffic flow at busy times and act as a traffic calming measure at less busy times.

Many people will have noticed that some wires have recently been placed across Wilmslow Road and Brook Lane, which are part of the second stage of the assessment to determine the need for a mini-roundabout at the top of Brook Lane.

Councillor Craig Browne explained "The wires have been measuring both the number of vehicles and speeds, as part of the assessment, so things are certainly moving forward."

He added "Over the next week or so, the focus will move onto Ryleys Lane, where an assessment is taking place for a new zebra crossing between Eaton Drive and Ryleys School. I am working with CE Highways and both local schools to try and get this funded through the 2017/18 capital budget."

I honestly don't see the point of this.

The traffic moving along the old A34 from Wilmslow to Alderley Edge is far greater than that moving "up" Brook Lane and yet the creation of a roundabout would mean that the greater volume must give way to the lesser volume.

Great for anyone turning right out of Brook Lane in towards Alderley Edge, but big queues on Wilmslow Road (both directions) approaching the roundabout.

But go ahead, it will only add to the current trend for creating traffic chaos at any (and every) opportunity.

Yes..build it. It has been necessary for many years.
There will NOT be any chaos or long queues.

Not sure on this one, maybe try a mini roundabout, could be MORE accidents though as some drivers don't know the Highway Code when it come to "Right of Way", why it could cost up to £1000 of tax payers money just to see if we need one is way out.

Those of you with long memories may recall that this was 'tried' a few years ago.

With some intent to direct traffic away from preceeding straight into Wilmslow from A.E. but instead sending traffic around. Is that to be a part of the 'new' approach?

Just asking.

If drivers were more considerate & let cars pull out of Brook lane it wouldn't be necessary. At peak times the problem on Brook lane are the parents and buses parked to collect children, are they going to address the that?

Surely the sensible thing to to would be to bring brook lane up to meet with Davey lane creating a four way intersection. After all theres already a set of lights there anyway and having two separate junctions so close together seems unnecessary?

The problem with roundabouts, mini or otherwise, is they do not allocate priority as traffic lights can. Thus the relatively small volumes of traffic exiting Brook Lane will have the same priority as the large volumes of traffic on the A34. This will result in easier egress from Brook Lane at the expense of long queues on the A34 in both directions.

Just erect traffic lights instead, timed to give a much longer 'green' on the A34 than on Brook lane.

Councillor Craig Browne confirmed at this evening's Parish Council meeting that this assessment has now been completed and he should have a report quite soon so he will share the results once available.

Hi Lisa,

thank you for passing that on.

Any chance you could uncover for us both the total cost of the assessment and how/who the monies were spent on?

Is it possible that the whole report will be made available? Possibly on your excellent organ?
Or will it be only a 'view' from 'interested parties'?

keep up the good work!
