Extension of Ryleys Lane car park under consideration

ryleyslanecp

The car park at Ryleys Lane will be resurfaced during the October half term and marked out to create approximately 40 spaces. Although it may be possible to accommodate a few extra spaces once the vegetation has been cut back.

The revamp is being carried out by Cheshire East Council, at no cost to the Parish Council, who have also indicated they are willing to consider extending the Ryleys Lane car park up to Wilmslow Road - which was suggested by a number of respondents to the recent parking survey.

Councillor Craig Browne said "Technically they are all additional spaces, as the land has never been formally recognised as a car park. Getting formal recognition of the car park is the first stage in the process; hopefully the next stage will be to get it extended to accommodate more vehicles, but for the time being I cannot give an update on when this will be."

The Ryleys Lane car park will continue to be free to use, however, parking outside the marked bays will be subject to a Fixed Penalty Notice and new signage is currently being prepared to notify users of the change.

Craig, What's the timescale to have some parking spaces on the Heyes Lane allotment site?

For some reason I thought the plan was to introduce a time limit on parking there once the work had been done to discourage people travelling from afar to commute from Alderley station? Was that scrapped or did I dream it?

I was under the same impression as Tam and I was pretty sure I didn't dream it. I found this back in April.
At Ryleys Lane, which is currently free to use and does not have any formal parking spaces, the Parish Council propose to reconfigure it for short term parking creating 33-35 spaces and possibly another 16 if a second tier was added."
And I can't find any update which announces a change to this. Are we being asked for our support for plans which are then altered without consultation?

Hi Tam/Stewart,

An update was published on this website, back in June

Any change to the time limit would happen as part of a phase two extension and would likely incorporate a split regime to allow both short and long stay parking.

Kind regards,
Craig

Without a comprehensive detail plan of parking for the whole village, it would be like resolving one issue and opening up three new ones.

We need a complete solution for:

1. Day parking for our workers (not commuters)
2. Reasonably charged parking for commuters
3. Short term parking for users of park, church, shops, school, etc.
4. Residential areas to stop pushing day parking into our smaller narrow roads.

There were 42 cars parked there the last time I counted.
Hopefully there will be an increase, rather than a decrease to 40 (at no little expence) ?

Do we have a firm undertaking as to how long parking will be free (preferably signed in blood!)?

I'm all in favour of both cutting back the vegatation and extending the whole car park up to London Rd. But before that happens, might the citizenry be asked their opinion?

Kevin,
when you get your 'private' update on parking (or not) on the Heyes Lane site, might you be so kind as to share that update with the rest of us please?

Is it just me who wonders why an update can't be put out here?
