A public meeting was held at Alderley Edge School for Girls on Wednesday, 21st September to kick off the development of a Neighbourhood Plan for Alderley Edge.

The plan needs to be driven by the people of the village, not just the Parish Council, so they invited local residents to the public meeting which was attended by 49 people. They also received apologies from 12 people who weren't able to attend but want to be involved in creating a Neighbourhood Plan which allows communities to say what they want their priorities to be over the next 15 years and once completed they have the power of the law.

John Heselwood from Cheshire Community Action led the meeting and explained what was involved with a Neighbourhood Plan, and following this residents got together in groups to discuss the themes they would like to work on.

Questionnaires were distributed and everyone had the chance to answer the following questions:

1. In 2030 I would like Alderley Edge to be a place where .....

2. What do you like about Alderley Edge and what don't you like?

3. What do you think are the 3 key priorities which relate to the theme you have chosen to work on.

The themes are : Managing Housing and Development; Protecting Green Spaces; Preserving Heritage and Character; Improving Infrastructure; Promoting Community Wellbeing and Supporting the Local Economy.

Councillor Christine Munro said "We are now going through the results of the questionnaires and will provide more feedback on what people said in the near future so that other residents can comment if they wish.

"The groups are now going to get together to discuss their theme and progress with it and this will be reported back to the first Steering Group Meeting for the Neighbourhood Plan which will be on 19th October. The Steering Group will comprise of one member from each group."
