A local day nursery has been granted planning permission for a single-storey extension to enable them to increase the number of places available so they can accommodate up to 90 children.

Alderley Day Nursery, located of the A34 Congleton Road close to Monks Heath in Nether Alderley, previously applied for a larger extension but this was refused in October 2015 (reference 15/0677M).

The applicant considered that the previous proposal was acceptable in scale and planning terms and an appeal against the earlier refusal is currently being prepared. However, in dealing with the Planning Officer's concerns the applicant re-visited the proposal and submitted a revise scheme which represents a 38% increase in the size of the nursery.

On approving the application, the case officer concluded "It is therefore considered that the proposed extension is of siting and design which would not represent a disproportionate addition to the building. It is further considered that in view of its reasonably modest proportions and given the context of the site alongside Congleton Road; the extension scheme would not detract from the openness of the Green Belt."

The existing car parking and turning area will be reconfigured to increase the number of parking spaces from 19 to 27, to accommodate the existing staff, a small increase in staff numbers and visitors. Whilst the outside play area will remain as existing as with the access from Congleton Road.

The plans can be viewed on the Cheshire East Council website by searching for planning reference 16/0736M.
