80% of motorists clocked speeding on Congleton Road

A Speed Indicator Device (SID) which was placed on Congleton Road last month recorded that 80% of passing vehicles were exceeding the 30 mph speed limit.

The SID was located near the junction with Beechfield Road and recorded the speeds of 2754 vehicles heading south out of Alderley Edge between 26th and 29th July.

During the three days 2199 vehicles were recorded exceeding the speed limit and the highest recorded speed was 73mph. The number of vehicles travelling over 40mph was 360, which represents 13.1%.

The average speed of all the vehicles recorded was 34.3mph.

Councillor Craig Browne "I am currently working with CE Highways on the possible introduction of traffic calming measures at this location; however, the necessary capital funding is unlikely to become available until next year.

"In the more immediate term, I have raised this as an issue with Sgt. Mark Durkin, who is the new Community Sergeant."

73mph. You would have to be a real idiot to be doing that. 34mph is more understandable as it us have ring around the correct speed.

Police active as usual then? Not. And the necessary capital funding required would be made available very quickly with the correct approach, those that break the law would carry out the funding.

If you think one reading of 73mph is incredible you want to live on Mottram Road where the majority of motorists travel at least at that speed totally ignoring parked cars (interesting that Mottram Road has not featured in articles about absentee car owners dumping their cars on the road for the day) and the entrance to the cricket club which accesses straight out onto the main road where there is no pavement.
The road is 'supposedly' a 30mph limit but this is wholly ignored both day and night by the majority of drivers many of whom seem to treat it like part of a Formula One racing track. I'd love to see a SID on this road to show how fast people drive down it.

"No funding available"?
Seemingly plenty of funding available for the revolving door of executives on eye-watering salaries at CEC. All these folks promise us the Moon on a stick but achieve nothing other than getting themselves a massive pay-off a couple of years later.
That is why there is no money for policing and front-line services.
