New double yellow lines on Macclesfield Road

DSCN2182

A new traffic regulation order has been implemented this week to prevent parking along a section of Macclesfield Road.

Double yellow lines have been painted on both sides of Macclesfield Road, from Norwood Rise to the property known as Sienna Lodge, to improve pedestrian safety.

Cllr Craig Browne explained that the TRO is "in response to residents' concerns about pedestrian footpath access along this section of road."

Hi Colin,

There are some changes coming to the existing yellow lines on Trafford Road (the top section between Chapel Road and Macclesfield Road), but they have been delayed due to changes that were made following concerns raised by residents. Personally, I have always thought that introducing a one-way restriction to that section of road would be the safest and most effective option, but it is something we can look at going forward.

Kind regards,
Craig

Hi Craig, we now have serious issues on Heyes Lane too with cars parking on BOTH sides of the road near a dangetous bend. There was a near head on collision involving a Sports car and agricultural vehicle yesterday. Some of these cars are also parking up on the very narrow pavement. Only an idiot would park here as it is clearly dangerous. I really could not care if their own cars are damaged but do care for other road users and pedestrians. If double yellows will not be added here can we please have a solid white line in the middle off the road on that side which would mean that the parking would be a contravention. Fire appliances and HGV's are going to have problems here if this parking increases.

Regards
Elizabeth

Is it me?

I had cause to drive up and down Macc. Rd. recently (like the Grand Old Duke of York?).

The placing of road markings/yellow lines is higgledy-piggledy.
Re. Chesterton's 'Rolling English Road?

There are parts with double yellow lines on both sides, parts with double yellow lines on only one side, parts with single yellow lines and parts with no lines.

Were the pupils of Alderley Edge Primary School on a painting-for-fun day?

Would it be sensible to re-visit the lot and simply put double yellow lines on the whole thing, from the bottom up to where all the lines currently cease?

Come on Councillors, you can do it.

By the way, I agree with Craig above (now there's a rare Conjunction of Stars) that turning the concerned bit of Trafford Road into a one-way bit would be cheaper and avoid losing another 20 or more parking spaces. What think you, gentle readers?

One way systems always preferable. Must be a cheap alternative?

One way idea sounds good.

I am amazed that a one way system in that section of Trafford Road wasn't introduced. It would ensure traffic can still flow up (or down) the road and still allow some parking (for residents!). How much are the officials in the Highways Dept. being paid to come up with these 'solutions'?

Craig (above) mentions 'concerns raised by residents'.
Does anyone know what these concerns were? If so, please tell us.

Was the possibility of a one-way system ever mentioned by residents, Highways people or Parish Council? if so, who decided not to?

A one way system would be great and could it be devised to help the hard pressed residents of Alderley on their morning commute so that it is one way going up Trafford Road to join Macclesfield Road. Obviously it would mean the longer way down the hill in the evening but time is much more of the essence in the morning is it not?
