Vandals wreck new bloom planter

After all the hard work put in by some of the parish councillors and a team of volunteers to improve the appearance of the village vandals have already damaged one of the new planters.

Alderley Edge entered the North West in Bloom competition for the first time this year and hosted a visit from the RHS judges yesterday (Friday, 29th July), who were given a tour of the village.

As part of the entry new planters have been placed along London Road, as well as on Heyes Lane and Wood Gardens.

However, overnight one of the planters, located near the newsagents, has been vandalised with ceramic container being cracked, the plants being ripped out and soil thrown all over the pavement.

Parish Councillor Myles Garbett is currenlty on his way to try and fix the ceramic planter with some 'no more nails'.

Councillor Craig Browne said "When a group of volunteers have given their time and worked so hard to make the village look nice, it is clearly disappointing that others show such a lack of respect for their efforts."

Councillor Christine Munro added "I am so sorry about the damaged planter. It all looked so beautiful how could someone be so distructive and disrespectful. If only they knew how much work went into it.

"I wish I could meet them and tell them what I think, which wouldn't be very polite."

Looks like the "Nightlife" of Alderley Edge may have knocked it over while merry, time to make the others secure as that one looks like a dog could knock it over.

Excellent point Terry.

The evidence will be there for all to see.

I look forward to reading about the apprehension of the person or persons responsible and then we can all congratulate ourselves on the value derived from the web of cctv cameras "serving" Alderley Edge.

Hi Terry,
as I best recall, the CCTV that the good folk of Alderley Edge pay for (via the Parish Council's precept) is not a 24 hours a day watch, but a 'to be looked at, after the event.
If the 'crim/s' struck where there is a coverage, there will be a record.
Best bet would be to ask your C.E. Councillor to look into it; probably he is already on the case?
Be nice if we could get a spot of feedback soonest?

A day in the village stocks? I'll bring the rotten eggs!

Entirely predictable. I sweep the pathway from Clifton Street through to Tyler Street as I rent out a flat there and want to do my bit. The rubbish I clear is unbelievable.

If we had bobby's on the beat this would be less likely to happen but I suspect this will be the actions of a drunk pouring himself out of a bar late at night.

Just disgusting.

Hello people - as a regular walker / jogger around town, I'm continuously upset by the rubbish, considering we have so many bins.
I'm always picking stuff up, especially on the walk way from Waitrose, including abandoned trolleys
Can't we ask our Councillor to suggest to the lovely Waitrose management there that they do a bit of a clear up every few days, so that we don't look like a canalside? I'm sure Martin the car park guy would do it!
Thanks.

Hi Danielle,

As I've commented on another thread, Waitrose have recently agreed to add the walkway to their regular clean-up programme. They have also scheduled the repair and relaying of the uneven/broken flags leading down the slope from London Road.

Kind regards,
Craig
