Hundreds of wizards who gathered to take part in a charity walk in Alderley Edge on Sunday 19th June have succeeded in creating a new Guinness World Record.

The 252 wizards who took part in the Wizard Walk around the village on Father's Day officially hold the Guinness World Record for the 'Largest Gathering of People Dressed as Wizards', which previously stood at 250 wizards.

The two mile stroll was organised by Maxipotential, an organisation set up by Saz Bailey to raise funds for her 8 year old son Max Bailey who has scoliosis (collapsing spine). Max, who attends Alderley Edge Community Primary School, requires surgery before his curve impacts his internal organs and becomes life threatening.

Saz Bailey said "Congratulations and thanks to all who supported Wizard Walk exactly one month ago today. Everyone from the committee, to volunteers, sponsors and the participating wizards made it a magical event to remember. There are lot's of great memories for the village to be proud of."

In order to secure the Guinness World Record they provided 37 individual pieces of evidence to prove that 252 wizards were all present and correctly dressed with a wand in hand for a full 5 minutes.

Saz added "People who saw the stream of wizards walking through the village have been asking what it was all about, and if it will happen again. The answer is; absolutely yes! We really want to make this a fun, annual community event to support Max and a long term vision for a scoliosis charity."

The Wizard Walk 2017 is intended to take place on Saturday, June 24th 2017. The weekend following Father's Day and the summer solstice.

The Wizard Walk has benefited the village further as a new large kissing gate wth Radar key will soon be fitted at the entrance to the fields from the path that joins Congleton Road and Lydiat Lane. It replaces an old rusty gate, next to a stile, making the fields and countryside accessible for people with wheelchairs and buggies.
