Photographers have risen to new heights

As local residents will have noticed, work on the church spire at St Philip & St James is now well underway.

The spire is coming down to enable the wrought iron rings to be replaced as they have been eroding and causing damage to the stone work.

Alongside work to the spire, internal remodelling is soon to take place, with toilets and a small kitchen area being built. The pews at the back are to be removed to create a new heritage centre for the village, using resources and archives from The Alderley History Group.

The scheme was awarded Heritage Lottery Funding which enabled the work to start but as fund raiser Mandy Parr explained "At present we are still £40,000 short, and are planning a fund raiser in the autumn."

Whilst work has been taking place, Peter Wright, (the former owner of Alderley Motors on Trafford Road, who is now a keen photographer) and Paul Moore conquered their fear of heights to take photos of Alderley Edge and the surrounding area from the top of the spire.

Peter and Paul will go up the spire again in the autumn when there will be less leaves and they can see more buildings.

Copies of these and the many other photos they took are available to purchase, a donation from all sales will go towards to the Spire Appeal.
