Children's play area set for £48,000 makeover

Play Area (Park)

Cheshire East Council have confirmed that nearly £50,000 will be spent on revamping the children's play area in Alderley Edge Park.

The above computer generated image gives an indication of what the new play area will look like in a few weeks time.

The project will be carried out HAGS SMP Ltd (Selby) and the cost of £48,108 will be fully met through existing Section 106 contributions.

Councillor Craig Browne commented "I'm delighted that we have been able to secure this upgrade to the play area, where the existing equipment had become rather tired and has long been in need of replacing. I'm pleased that these S106 funds are finally being spent in the area in which they were generated, i.e. Alderley Edge.

"I'm also pleased that they are being spent in the park, which is heavily used and that the equipment will be highly visible to local people."

Councillor Rachael Grantham added "The proposed designs will now go to our new Parish Youth Council for consultation and discussion, before agreeing what equipment should actually be purchased within the budget they have been given.

"We have an opportunity to also provide some equipment for older children, although this would be located outside the toddler play area. We are also very happy that ANSA have agreed to permanently place two new table-tennis tables under the former bandstand in the park, which was something else that the Parish Youth Council had recently asked for. The table-tennis tables have already been ordered and should be in place within the next three to four weeks."

May I ask what other plans there are for the older kids please? Skateboarding ramps and or rails would be a great addition

Dear Fiona,

As Rachael has said, above, we are working with the new Parish Youth Council who are helping to inform our plans for older children as well. One of the first things they asked for was table-tennis tables under the bandstand and as a result, these will now be put in place during the school summer holidays. The Youth Councillors have also indicated that they would like to have a skateboard ramp, which we are working on, but as the estimated cost is £25,000 we are having to explore sponsorship options which of course will take time.

Kind regards,
Craig
