Drivers fined for parking opposite solid white lines

Police officers are continuing to monitor the parking situation on Congleton Road following a number of complaints from local residents.

Two weeks ago PCSOs Emma Darroch and Sarah Stanley issued 14 advisory notices over a weekend to vehicles parked adjacent to the solid white line which runs along the middle of Congleton Road.

This was followed up last week when officers revisited the area and issued two fines to vehicles parked illegally. Then on Friday, 27th May, officers returned and issued another five fines.

It is an offence under the Highway Code to park adjacent to a solid white line, even if the solid white line is on the other side of the carriageway, and can result in drivers receiving up to three points on their licence and a fine.

PCSO Sarah Stanley said "This area is a problem area within Alderley Edge and it will be actively patrolled and action will be taken to vehicles that park opposite the solid white line."

I pass these parked at least 4 times a day, I've not come close to anything like an 'incident' I can only suppose there are a lot of poor drivers out there unable to negotiate anything other than an empty straight road!

However driving through the main part of the village can be very tight, complicated and risky with the involvement of pedestrians, some of which have met their deaths here.
I think it would be more appropriate to ban parking along the main street.

Now there's something a crusade worthy of the people that have nothing better to do.

Here's a novel idea....why doesn't the council actually provide parking, say a multi-storey on the carpark at the back of Royles square. Then some of the 100s of millions we all pay in taxes can go to something useful!

Those solid white lines are there for a reason, i.e. there is a blind brow on that hill, to the left of the photo. Anyone who drives that road regularly will be aware of it, but it is still a dangerous spot if cars are parked close to the brow. The road could actually be kept safe by introducing marked parking bays and moving the position of the central white lines, but parking is quite dangerous with the road markings as they are at present.

Parking throughout Alderley village is a problem with a total disregard to white or yellow lines. More enforcement is needed especially around the schools at 3pm
