Rain fails to dampen runner's spirits

The Alderley Edge May Fair 5k took place on Friday evening with 88 competitors taking to the streets and fields of Alderley Edge running, walking and Nordic walking before returning back to the park for celebratory drinks.

The rain during the event could not dampen the enthusiasm and competitive spirt of the entrants who set off from Alderley Edge Park, which was full of festivities for the annual May Fair celebrations.

First past the finish line was Ben Walton who beat last year's winner Tom Dawson by a few seconds. In third place was James Pratt.

This was the second year Physiofit organised the event, encouraging people of all ages and abilities to take part to get active by running, walking or even Nordic walking round the course.

Director of Physiofit Angie said "I was very happy for Physiofit to lead and manage the event again, the whole Physiofit team has embraced the spirit of the occasion and we have been delighted with the turn out and particularly by the support of the May Fair committee, without whom none of the wonderful festivities throughout the weekend could take place."

Instead of charging an entry fee participants were asked for donations to Cardiac Risk in the Young and the event has so far raised over £300.

The evening of entertainment and activity in the park on Friday 20th May also included a crown green bowling competition, followed by a 5-a-side footie competition and live music from local acts on two stages.
