Advisory notices issued to vehicles parked on Congleton Road

congletonrd

Whilst on patrol in the village at the weekend PCSOs Emma Darroch and Sarah Stanley focussed on vehicles parked illegally on Congleton Road, which the police have recently received a number of complaints about.

Advisory notices were issued to 14 vehicles parked adjacent to the solid white line which runs along the middle of Congleton Road on Saturday, 14th May.

PCSO Emma Darroch explained "This offence comes under the Highway Code which states that you cannot park adjacent to a solid white line even if the solid white line is on the other side of the carriageway and may lead to drivers receiving up to three points on their licence and a monetary fine."

PCSO Sarah Stanley said "This area is a problem area within Alderley Edge and it will be actively patrolled and action will be taken to vehicles that park opposite the solid white line."

Thanks for your attention and your enforcement, Emma and Sarah. Something is not clear to me . . . If these cars are illegally parked, why are they getting advisory notices and not a full ticket?

What Helen Jabr said. Since they are clearly illegally parked, why are they not getting a parking ticket?

Because of the lack of double yellow lines !

John... according to Emma's comment (penultimate para) an offence has already been committed. So a parking ticket should be issued.
I agree it is a mess...
Either the Police, or whoever gives parking tickets, should issue these regularly and emphasise the "reinforcement", or double yellow lines should be placed even though that might be considered by Cheshire East as superfluous to requirements given the point about the white line in middle of the road.
Unfortunately at the moment neither is being upheld and people are getting away with the parking... Shame.

Failed as usual with a lack of enforcement. An advisory notice is pointless, it won't stop them. Just look at what happens outside all the schools in the village.

It is about time that authorities stop failing the public and take firm action against offenders.

I spoke to a warden regarding these vehicles last Friday. The wardens can issue tickets for parking on double yellow lines but it requires a police officer or special to issue tickets for white line offences. The best that the PCSO's can do is issue advice and ask the police to attend where the problem persists. Daft but true!

We had again a similar mega parking situation yesterday Mon 16th and in fact did call the Police who turned up promptly. Despite there also being one car blocking half the entrance to our drive the Police decided to only issue advisory notices to all the illegally parked cars. We debated the matter for about 15 min but to no avail. As I said before... Shame!

Am I the only person who thinks that it is rather nice to be given an advisory notice ?

I was once given one and was very grateful and had respect for the authorities , it goes without saying that I never parked there again

Cars are regularly parked on the double yellow lines outside Gusto's & narrowing London rd to single lane & nothings done.

Receiving an Advisory Notice is nice and needs appreciating. I live up Beechfield Road and pass these parked cars 4 times a day....I'm still trying to work out what the fuss is all about!

As a resident of Congleton Road , I and other neighbours are acutely aware of the constant screeching of brakes, cars and buses, often travelling up and down the hill at great speed as they approach the brow of the hill down to the village. It is at this blind spot where they meet a line of illegally parked vehicles and they have nowhere to go but into the lane of oncoming traffic hoping that there is nothing coming up the hill. There has already been one accident and it is only a matter of time before somebody is seriously hurt again.
As a non-resident of Congleton Road, Howard, you will not be fully aware of the situation. The fact is that people could, and have been, seriously injured due to the thoughtless parking of others. I can say no more . . . The Police have been made aware of how dangerous the road is and need to take action about the parking. As I keep saying, it is a shame that this situation is left to prevail as it is.

What's wrong with warning someone before taking action.
Are people that mean spirited that they are only happy if somebody is fined for every minor indiscretion.

As a resident of Congleton Road, maybe Helen (or any other neighbour) could offer her driveway to one or two of these motorists free of charge, therefore helping to solve the problem.

Why should she or any other resident offer their driveway free of charge (or is thsi a tongue in cheek comment ?) There could be possible insurance implications for the householder . If said householder wishes to earn some money by providing a parking space that is an altogether different proposition. But guiltripping residents to handing over their driveway to solve the parking problems in A Edge is not the solution either.

The very fact the council has painted these lines on the road on the above picture, means it is dangerous to a. overtake and b. park in this area, according to the rules of the road. We as motorists agree to abide to these rules when we pass our driving test's and get our licence. Also the police have a duty of care to enforce the rules of the road should certain citizens not follow the rules. I don't see in my highway code anywhere about nice little notices being placed on my car if i break the rules, but it does talk about fines and points. I am a big boy, and understand the consequences of my actions, should i break the rules, therefore i don't park in places like the above photo. Not only that i wouldn't be able to live with myself if my parked car caused a serious accident. People need to ask themselves, is it really worth it for the sake of walking another 5 minutes?? No wonder there is parking chaos, if the rules are not enforced. Wilmslow is starting to creep ever worse, and i never see any tickets being issued, so how long before we are in the same boat i wonder? If tickets were issued down this stretch of the road every day for a week, guess what, no parked cars! I'm sure the new police and crime commissioner will be after headline grabbing easy wins, well here he goes....................

Elizabeth, I didn't say she should, only that she could.

You say there could be insurance implications about parking on her driveway but then say it would be OK just as long as she could make a quick buck from it.

What a strange comment.

OK... Assume we fill our drives with the cars of others, this will only vacate the road for more illegally parked cars.
I am making a stand for the safety of people who live in, visit and pass through the village.
Enforcement of the law is all that is needed...

Mark Russel has encapsulated this. The rules are in place to ensure road safety, the police are in place to (among other things) enforce those rules. Selfish motorists who break the rules don't seem to care about the safety issues, and as long as they get away with it or only receive toothless warnings, they will continue and someone will be hurt or worse.

Just enforce the law! I know the police are busy but how long would it take to ticket a line of dangerously parked cars?

We all agree that road safety is important but I am still not sure why there is this need to fine/prosecute every minor indiscretion.

As Carol Bland (see her post) and I can testify, a warning can have the same result and be much pleasant.

Obviously the "holier than thou" folk on here wouldn't know
