Three local girls to shine at this year's May Fair

Mayqueen & Attendants 2016ST

With less than two weeks to go until the big day, organisers of 2016 Alderley Edge May Fair have selected this year's May Fair Queen and her attendants.

Laura Maclean aged 9 will have the honour of being this year's May Queen and her attendants will be Erin Moran and Merlina Holmes who are also both 9 years old. All three girls live in in the village, are classmates at Alderley Edge Community Primary School and like to get involved in local community groups and activities; including being members of the local brownies.

It will be a very special day for our three local girls who will be treated to a hair and make-up makeover session in the morning. A horse drawn carriage will then be waiting for them at Chorley Hall Playing Fields ready for the parade through the village. After the parade they will officially open this year's Mayfair and judge the Fancy Dress competition.

The 6th Alderley Edge May Fair will take place on Saturday 21st May, kicking off at 11am with the parade featuring over 200 people. Led by the Town Crier, who will announce the many groups and entertainers - including the White Horse and Wizard of Alderley, the Chester Giants, British Legion veterans, fancy dress entrants, military vehicles, vintage cars and lots more.

Additionally there will be entertainers in the village prior to the parade and Alderley History Group will be displaying old photographs of Alderley Edge on the London Road railings above The Parade, so people are advised to get to the village early to soak up the atmosphere and get a great view of the parade.

Organisers are putting together a week of events leading up to the main event, starting on Saturday 14th May with a 1940s dance at the Festival Hall featuring the Swing Commanders. This will be followed by a quiz at The Botanist on Sunday 15th May 2016 and a summer BBQ with live jazz performed by the talented keyboard player and singer Jeremy Sassoon at Aldeli on Thursday 19th May.

On Friday 20th May there will be an evening of activity and live entertainment in the park, commencing at 5pm with a crown green bowling competition. For the second year they will also be hosting a fun 5-a-side footie competition for all grown-ups who enjoy a kick about and a 5k Fun Run starting at 7pm.

Live Music will be then be playing in the marquee from 8pm to 10pm, the funfair rides will be open until 9pm and this year feature 'The Booster - a 120ft high ride'. There will also be food outlets serving hot and cold food and licenced bars offering quality wines and beers.

The fun doesn't end there though because this year the May Fair will be followed by an artisan market with a picnic in the park theme on Sunday 22nd May.

See our events calendar for more details on all the events taking place throughout the May Fair week.

The annual Alderley Edge May Fair is a community event organised by a small committee of volunteers. Any profits made are ploughed back in to next years' event to ensure they can continue to provide our amazing village with a fantastic annual community event.

If any children (accompanied by adult) want to take in the parade then you have the chance to do so in the Fancy Dress Section, the theme is open. Registration for the Fancy Dress will be open from 10am on Chorley Hall Lane Playing Field, if you want further information email Jacqui Taggart.
