Police concerned about youths gaining entry to derelict building

yesterdays

Police have again been called to a derelict building in the village following reports that local youths have been gaining entry.

At 9.51pm on Friday, 6th May, a passerby reported a lot of noise and banging coming from inside the former Yesterdays nightclub at Harden Park.

PCSO Sarah Stanley said "They were concerned as they didn't want anyone getting hurt or causing damage to the property. When police arrived there were no signs of anyone in the grounds."

Previously a call was received at 5.55am on Monday 2nd May from the security firm which looks after the adjacent County Hotel, reporting that the boards had been removed from Yesterdays between 3am and 5.55am.

PCSO Stanley added "Contact is being made with the property developers and boarding up should be completed soon. I have also produced some Police Notices to be erected on the fence line and property warning trespassers of the dangers this building presents."

Last year six youths were caught by police after deliberately starting a small fire inside Yesterdays. The Victorian villa was used as a nightclub until 2004, but originally it was a small hotel. The property has remained vacant for the past 12 years and suffered from vandalism and neglect.

In 2011 plans to create a 68 bedroom hotel with a bistro and spa at the site, which lies in the North Cheshire Green Belt, were refused. Then in June 2015 MCR Property Group applied to demolish the former nightclub and replace it with it with ten detached dwellings with associated parking and landscaping.

This planning application, reference 15/1955M, was due to be considered by the Northern Planning Committee In August 2015 but is now scheduled to go before the committee on 6th July 2016.

Planning permission to demolish the neighbouring County Hotel building and replace it with 14 apartments was granted in October 2013, however work has yet to start on this scheme.

If you noticed anything suspicious, call 101, alternatively information can also be given anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Every time I drive past these two eye-sores on my way into or out of Alderley I can't believe that the situation has been allowed to continue for so long. Surely CEC (or previously MBC) could have compelled the owners to make the buildings good, or served a compulsory purchase order?
I can't think of any other derelict site (anywhere) which has been allowed to decay for so long; not exactly a good "welcome to Alderley" is it?

One of our members at Alderley Edge Hockey Club witnessed 5 boys scale the gate at the Ryleys Playing field last night, take in bikes and enter Yesterday's land through the boundary hedge.

Police were alerted and hopefully discovered them on the premises before they put themselves in danger.

Ongoing issue and ringing 101 will help the police if any folk see the youths in the area .

Talking of security, why are the gates to the Festival Hall left unlocked at night, not much point in spending all that money on gates and fencing if it's left open !
