An Alderley Edge mother of two was left shaken after being approached by a man in the village centre claiming to be from British Intelligence.

Having taken money out from the Nat West cash machine just after 4pm on Friday, 22nd April, she was approached by a portly man dressed in a smart black suit with a walkie talkie. He was driving a black Kia.

She explained "He showed me his identification and said 'Madam I'm from British Intelligence and I need you to come with me straight away'.

"I walked towards the car asking him what I had done. He replied 'Madam we have been following your car for 30 minutes and I need you to step this way immediately'. I got to his car and was about to get in, and asked him if I could go back and collect my phone. He said yes and accompanied me back to the car.

"Something didn't seem right, the car had rust on and just didn't feel like a police car. I moved around the car away from him (as though looking for my phone) and got into the back seat of my car and took a picture of his registration.

"He must have seen me through the tinted windscreen and he slowly backed into his car still speaking into his gadget and reversed down George Street and drove off."

She added "It was 4pm so there were lots of parents and children wandering around after the school run so it just did not feel that suspicious. It was the rust on the car which made me question it."

The lady rang 999 straight away, the police took the number plate and officers arrived to cover the area.

A police spokesperson said "At approximately 4.10pm on Friday 22 April officers from Macclesfield Local Poling Unit were called to reports of a suspicious person in the London Road area of Alderley Edge.

"The victim, a local woman, had been using the cash machine at a bank on London Road when she was approached by a man driving a Black Kia Rio who asked her to get into his car.

"The victim refused to get into the vehicle and contacted Cheshire Police. At no point were any threats made towards the victim.

"Anyone with any information in relation to the incident is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 603 of 22/3/16."
