Plans to grow the Borough's visitor economy to exceed £1bn

Cheshire East Council has announced that it plans to grow the Borough's visitor economy by more than £200m in the next four years.

The Council aims to increase the number of jobs in the sector from 10,851 to 14,648 jobs by 2020 and grow the Borough's visitor economy to £1.08 billion.

Councillor Rachel Bailey, the new Leader of Cheshire East Council, said: "We are committed to enhancing and growing our visitor economy for the benefit of all our residents.

"We are very fortunate to have a strong variety in our visitor offer, with outstanding award-winning attractions, beautiful countryside and a rich heritage and culture, all of which can be easily accessed via two international airports and excellent road and rail links."

The visitor economy in Cheshire East saw 48 per cent growth in the period 2009-2015 from £543m to £807m.
