Permission to sell toiletries and other chemist sundries delays new pharmacy

As reported earlier this week, Jones Contracts has formally handed over the new Alderley Edge Medical Centre to Alderley Edge Parish Council.

With the building now complete the doctors will be move out of their George Street premises on Friday 8th April.

The new surgery, located at the front of the refurbished festival hall, will open for urgent appointments only on Monday, 11th April, but will be fully up and running from Tuesday 12th April.

Unfortunately the pharmacy will not be opening at the same time because the planning permission which has been granted is for the prescription of drugs and doesn't include other things normally sold in pharmacies.

Therefore, Alderley Edge Parish Council has applied for a Certificate of Lawful Proposed Use to allow the pharmacy at the new Alderley Edge Medical Centre to sell over the counter medicines, chemist sundries and first aid items, cosmetics and toiletries etc.

The plan is for the new pharmacy to be open from 8:30am to 6:00pm.

The application can be viewed on the Cheshire East Council website by searching for planning reference 16/1366M. The last date for submitting comments is 12th April and a decision is expected to be made by 13th May.

Patients are advised that the doctor's computer system will be shut down during the move. There will be no routine prescriptions, and the practice will be unable to book any routine appointments as they will not have access to medical records or test results. Therefore, only genuine emergencies can be dealt with.
