The best and worst GP surgeries have been revealed as a result of an independent patient survey with our local surgeries performing above the national average.

According to the GP Patient Survey, which is run by Ipsos MORI on behalf of NHS England, Wilmslow Health Centre was the most popular surgery in Wilmslow, Handforth and Alderley Edge. 93% of Wilmslow Health Centre patients described their overall experience of this surgery as good, compared with 91% of both Kenmore Medical Centre and Handforth Health Centre patients and 89% of those who attend Alderley Edge Medical Practice. These figures compared with an average of 87% for the Eastern Cheshire Clinical Commissioning Group (ECCCG) and 85% nationally.

92% of patients at Wilmslow Health Centre said they would recommend the surgery to someone new to the area, compared with 89% at both Kenmore Medical Centre and Alderley Edge Medical Practice and 85% at Handforth Health Centre. The average for the ECCCG was 81% and the national average was 78%.

The GP Patient Survey has been designed to give patients the opportunity to comment on their experience of their GP practice. The survey asks about your experiences of your local GP surgery and includes questions about a range of issues, such as how easy or difficult it is for patients to make an appointment at their surgery, satisfaction with opening hours, the quality of care received from their GP and practice nurses and experience of out-of-hours NHS services.

The survey was sent out to 5,511 people across ECCCG which is made up of 23 Eastern Cheshire based GP practices located in Knutsford, Holmes Chapel, Congleton, Macclesfield, Bollington, Disley, Poynton, Heald Green, Wilmslow, Handforth and Alderley Edge. 2,660 completed questionnaires were returned which represents a response rate of 48%.
