The Edge welcomes 120 primary school children

Alderley Edge Hockey Club hosted the annual Macclesfield School Sports Partnership Primary School Hockey tournament for year 5 and 6 children this week.

Teams took part from Alderley Edge Community Primary School, Nether Alderley Primary School, Ashdene, Wilmslow Grange, Lindow, St Benedicts, St Anne's Fulshaw, Gorsey Bank, Mobberley, Upton Priory, Dean Valley, Whirley and Bollin Brook.

Rosie Harris, the School Games organiser from the local School Sport Partnership arranged for Young Leaders from Wilmslow High School to run the competition providing umpires for all the games and co-ordinating the results.

After some exciting matches Lindow Community Primary School were crowned winners, with Whirley coming second and St Anne's Fulshaw a close third.

As a result both Lindow and Whirley qualify for the county finals to be played at The Edge on Tuesday 8th March.

Club Community Coach Kelvin Briggs said "A second day of hockey for the children this week sees more teams coming to play hockey at The Edge. Nether Alderley return with children from Styal, Hurdsfield and Bollington St John receiving hockey coaching from Alderley Edge Hockey Club coaches and playing some small sided competitive games.

"By close of play this week, over 120 local primary school children will have played hockey at The Edge. Alderley Edge Hockey Club are signed up to helping get 'more children, more active, more often' and work closely with local primary schools to provide coaching and school/ club links. Getting children in to sport early and enjoying healthy lifestyles is a key objective for both schools and local hockey clubs. By the look of this week's activity, it seems to be working!"
