Some years ago I was a student landlord in Rusholme. I accepted a student who turned out to be Brian's daughter. Calling at the house to check that all was well afore she moved in: as I opened the door, I saw at the head of the stairs facing me, a tall man in shorts holding a Stanley knife. I thought my time had come (Local Landlord slaughtered by crazed knife wielder). It was Brian, putting in a rug for his daughter. Talk about a scary priest eh?

In May 2007,my late Wife,Josephine (nee Stringer) and I enjoyed a re-taking of vows after 50 years of marriage, in St: Phillips Church. The ceremony was taken by Brian Young, after Jo and I had been to his Vicarage the previous day for "instruction" and being made a large brown pot of tea by himself !
At the ceremony Brian praised us for our devotion, love, and affection. We thanked him for this tribute adding that only arthritis impaired our devotion over the years ! Afterwards, we all repaired to The Edge Hotel for suitable refreshments where Brian enjoyed a glass or three. A great man sadly missed .

I would just like to thank everyone for these most touching tributes to my Dad. I have also received so many wonderful cards and letters that I will treasure for years to come. I was lucky enough to have been with him when he died - it was a peaceful end to what had been an enormous struggle with his health as a result of long term diabetes. Thank you once again and I hope to see some of you either at the funeral or his memorial service. With love. Anna x

Brian was a true Christian and Gentleman. He could often be seen in the village talking to people regardless of their religious beliefs, either passing the time of day or answering their questions. He set the example and its a high bar he erected.A great loss to his family and the village/community

I have just been informed that a book of condolences is to be opened at St Philip's & St James Church from Sunday for Brian. The church is open every day.
