A campaign launched in Alderley Edge to raise awareness of melanoma in the beauty, health and fitness industries has run five training sessions for local professionals so far and has a full diary for the coming month.

Claire Dale from Melanoma UK launched The Irene Parker Skin Safety Message in October last year, in memory of her mother who died at the age of 63, two years after being diagnosed with advanced melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer.

Claire, an Alderley Edge mum of three, has been well supported by local businesses, many of whom signed up for the campaign before the launch, and Alderley Edge based Physiofit is the latest company to receive the training that the charity is offering.

During the melanoma awareness training session last month, Consultant Dermotologist Dr Vishal Madan gave them an informative talk about skin cancer and what to be looking out for. He stressed the vital importance of detecting melanoma early to help save lives.

Claire Dale said "We were delighted to offer this training to the physiotherapy industry. It was a great evening and all the physios went away very enthusiastic about spreading our awareness message. Thank you to Angela Jackson and her team for their support. If my mum had detected her melanoma earlier she would still be here. The message is that simple. Check your skin and see you GP or a dermatologist if you see any changes at all."

The founder of Melanoma UK Gillian Nuttall said "The Irene Parker skin safety campaign has been welcomed by many people in the health, fitness and beauty industry.

"Claire decided she wanted to turn a very sad situation into something positive and her passion for this project is very infectious. I'm sure she will make this a huge success."
