Sneak peak inside Yu Restaurant and Bar

The Yu brothers, from the award-winning Chinese restaurant Yu & You, are preparing to open their new Alderley Edge restaurant.

Yu Restaurant and Bar, located on the first floor of the former Panacea building, will open tomorrow (Friday, 20th November), "bringing fine dining Chinese to the village with a funky vibe".

Brothers Victor and Vinny Yu, who founded Yu and You in the heart of the Ribble Valley with their father Charlie, have a desire to take it to the next level in terms of what people expect from a Chinese restaurant.

They are passionate about using the best ingredients to blend traditional and modern methods of cooking. The menu offers the traditional favourite dishes which diners would expect, such as Sweet and Sour Chicken and Crispy Vegetable Spring Rolls, along with some new ideas.

The Yu family's style of cooking has seen their Ribble Valley restaurant achieve numerous accolades (including the prestigious Legacy of Taste Pagoda award and MSN UK Food's Best UK Chinese restaurant) and the Yu brothers are aiming for awards with their new brand.

Victor Yu, head chef, described the food as a modern take on Chinese with a very different presentation.

Highlights on the menu include Roasted Black Cod with Miso and Champagne and Victor Yu's Deconstructed Crispy Duck and Pancakes, an aromatic breast of duck thinly sliced, with crispy duck skin served separate, accompanied by spring onions and cucumber in Yuzu and Hoi Sin.

Another signature dish is the Wok Seared Wagyu Beef Fillet with Soy and Lime which is a dish created by Victor Yu which won Gordon Ramsay's Best Chinese Restaurant in Great Britain award.

Victor continued "The menu is seasonal and uses local produce. It is not a big menu but every dish is done to 110%. We don't over complicate things though and there are no fancy names so people recognise it, but the execution is quite different."

Yu also features a separate bar area, where people are welcome to just come in for just a drink, so neither diners or drinkers feel they are encroaching on one another.

Victor added "We've been looking to expand the business and open a second site for a while now, but we wanted to find the right location first. Both Vinny and I think Alderley Edge is a fantastic place that will complement the restaurant's sophisticated style and food offering.

"Yu will be the only Chinese restaurant in the town and we're looking forward to bringing a new concept to both residents and visitors from the surrounding area, making the former Panacea site a desirable destination once again."

Yu will be open from 4.30pm for dinner and closed Mondays.
