Shopping centres and retail parks across the county have embraced the festive spirit, with many retailers staying open late.
However, whilst some people go into shops to buy their wares, other unscrupulous characters take the term 'window shopping' to a whole new level.
Thieves take advantage of the festive hustle and bustle, and the fact that people leave valuables items and presents in our cars.
Assistant Chief Constable Mark Roberts said, "Christmas is a time for giving, however it's important that we don't let thieves take presents that are meant for family and friends.
"It may not just be presents that you've bought, but everyday items such as sat navs and iPods are also high on a thief's wish list. It's vital that you remove any valuable items from your vehicles, to deter opportunistic thieves from helping themselves."
Drivers are being urged to:
• Ensure their vehicle is locked and secure when it is unattended – even for a brief moment.
• Remember to activate their alarm and/or steering lock
• Remove any valuable items – such as mobile phones, laptops and cash – from the vehicle.
• Do not be tempted to hide valuable items in the glove box or under seats.
• Remember to remove the sat nav and fascia of car stereos – ensure you detach the cradle.
• Ensure you wipe away the mark from the windscreen that has been left by the suction pad – as this is a tell-tale sign for thieves that a sat nav is being used in the vehicle.
• Try and park in well-lit areas where there are a lot of people around.
• Report any suspicious activity to the police immediately.
Assistant Chief Constable Mark Roberts added, "We're here for you over the festive period, but we also need your help. If you have any information about vehicle crime in your community, contact us on 101. Let's all work together to prevent your Christmas from turning blue."
