Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service is encouraging residents to attend an organised bonfire this year, because most injuries throughout the bonfire period occur as a result of people building their own bonfires, and setting off their own fireworks.

Cheshire Police are also reminding people to take care and act responsibly this Bonfire Night.

Assistant Chief Constable Mark Roberts said, "Our officers will be out over the Bonfire period and will provide a visible presence on the streets dealing with incidents of anti-social behaviour and criminal damage.

"We want people to go out and enjoy themselves, along with their family and friends, without having to worry about crime or anti-social behaviour. We will not tolerate anyone acting in an anti-social manner, and anyone found to be causing problems for local residents will be dealt with robustly."

Anyone in possession of fireworks deemed to be acting in an anti-social manner will have their fireworks confiscated by officers.

Assistant Chief Constable Roberts added, "Last Bonfire Night we received over 1,400 calls from members of the public, of which 189 related to anti-social behaviour. We are imploring people to behave responsibly and not take unnecessary risks."

Station Manager Anthony Jones said: "We want everyone to enjoy the bonfire period by attending organised displays and there are plenty available for people to go to. Sadly a lot of our time is taken up dealing with deliberate fires at this time of year and we work closely with our partners to try and reduce these each year."

There are three organised displays taking place in Alderley Edge this weekend at Alderley Edge Community Primary School on Friday 6th, The Drum and Monkey on Saturday 7th and Alderley Edge Cricket Club on Sunday 8th. Details for all these events can be found in our events calendar.
