Alderley Edge Parish Council has applied to build a single storey extension to create an additional meeting room at the Festival Hall.
Described in the application as a members lounge, the room will be accessed off the main foyer.
Councillor Geoff Hall explained "This is not something new, having been in the plans put forward by the previous Parish Council.
"The term Members Lounge is probably somewhat misleading. It is simply an additional meeting room located adjacent to the entrance to the Festival Hall, that would be available for hire by individuals, organisations or community groups, with a convenient link to the bar.
"We want to build it if at all possible, as it would not only provide a useful additional community resource, but also complete that side of the building.
"The main issue we are dealing with at the moment is how to fund the Members Lounge and we hope to be able to report more on our progress with that at the November Parish Council meeting.
"We have made the planning application now so that, assuming we can secure the necessary funding, then we can go ahead with the build without further delay."

Additionally, Alderley Edge Parish Council has withdrawn their previous planning application for listed building consent for changes to the rear and side elevations of the Festival Hall as the application was made on the basis that the Festival Hall was a Listed Building but it has subsequently been established that it is only locally listed and therefore the previous application is no longer valid.
Updated 4pm, Monday 12th October - A revised application for the changes to the rear and side elevations has now been submitted and can be viewed on the Cheshire East Council website by searching for planning reference 15/4448M.
