GPs urge patients to get flu jab

Alderley Edge Medical Practise is urging patients to get ready for winter by having a flu jab because, whilst flu may not seem like a big deal to some it can lead to serious complications and illness.

Everyone over 65 and patients with certain medical conditions such as asthma, bronchitis, chronic heart disease, chronic kidney or liver disease, Parkinson's disease and MS are eligible for a free flu vaccination.

Patients with a learning disability, diabetes or a weakened immune system due to disease or treatment (such as cancer treatment) are also able to have a free flu jab along with all pregnant women.

The doctors said "A flu jab can considerably reduce your risk of hospitalisation or even winter death."

Those born between 2nd September 1942 and 1st September 1945 or 2nd September 1935 and 1st September 1937 are also eligible for the shingles vaccination this year.

Contact the surgery from Monday, 28th September, to arrange an appointment on 01625 584545.
