Get active with free sessions on Older People's Day

Every year there is a day to mark the achievements and contributions that older people make to our society and to tackle negative attitudes and outdated stereotypes.

Older People's Day this year is on Thursday October 1st and a number local voluntary groups and businesses have joined the campaign to provide encouragement and the opportunity for older people to stay active.

Health and fitness professionals from the village will attending the Alderley Edge Luncheon Club, run by the Royal Voluntary Service, to offer free advice, walking aid checks, falls prevention activities and a chair based fitness class.

Other activities include a free Nordic walking taster session in Alderley Edge Park, a Pilates session, the chance to have a go at bowling at the Alderley Edge Union Club and Wilmslow Leisure Centre have also offered some free swimming passes.

The sessions are all free but any donations will go to Age UK.

Angela Jackson of Physiofit explained "Our aim is to try and show what incredible things our residents achieve with stories of cycling, walking, yoga, bowling, tennis and more. We would like you to send us tales and photos of what you and your friends are doing to stay fit and we will publish them in recognition of the positive approach so many people adopt."

All entrants will be put in a prize draw on the 30th September 2015. Submit your stories in print to Physiofit in Alderley Edge or via email.
